New Mail Notification popup doesn't work
(too old to reply)

We just installed quite a lot of notes R6 clients on Win2K and WinXP
workstations, & most of them (but, not all) won't display the new mail
popup when new mail arrives. The sound works OK, but even though we have
selected the right items in User Preferences, the popup refuses to work.

Anyone have an idea if this is a client bug, or just something simple that
we're overlooking ?

Appreciate any help that anyone can offer.

Cheers,

Hi Gary,
take a look in the notes.ini.
search for this two entries:
NewMailSeqNum=123
NewMailSeqNum<replica of mailfile>=123

set both to zero.

Howdy Gary and Chris:
We're experiencing the same problem here at our network, where we are
now migrating to Windows XP. Some users want the old NT-style
behavior for the Mail Notification pop-up.

I didn't have any luck with Chris' suggested edits to the Notes.ini
file. (I was hoping that would work!) However, I did discover this
work-around:

1. In Notes | File | Preferences | User preferences | Mail and News |
Receiving: de-select 'Check for New Mail'

2. Open the Lotus Notes Minder (nminder.exe) Once it opens, access
the Properties and select 'Visual Notification for Mail'. On our
network, a short cmd script runs nminder.exe with a pointer to the
user's notes.ini location.

Curiously, the Minder's notification pop-up *does* get focus and will
not relinquish it until the user clicks OK. (I found the visual
notification within Notes had to be turned off because it interfered
with the Minder's notification.) Also, you do not need to have Notes
open to be notified of new mail when using the Minder.

Regards,
Mike
